Julian Sanghvi:

Main Events: HI, DUO

One Word to Describe MSD: Accepting

Favorite MSD Tournament: State (sophomore year)

Favorite MSD Experience:

Senior Speeches. These have always been the most impactful and growth filled experiences I’ve ever had. Hearing such eloquently expressed ideas about how to live one’s life lovingly and how their own life has been impacted by this team never ceases to inspire me to put myself out there and to make myself the best I can be.

Your Favorite Piece:

Murder in the Knife Room: This humorous duo piece was incredibly fun to perform as the concept was ridiculous in and of itself. Being able to try and make it as funny as possible with my amazing duo partner allowed for a new, long lasting friendship full of support and inside jokes.

Jon Telebrico:

Main Events: OO, Expos, OPP, Parliamentary Debate

One Word to Describe MSD: Momentous

Favorite MSD Tournament: Long Beach

Favorite MSD Experience:

My favorite MSD Experience had to be riding the bus down to Long Beach in 2017 and singing along to Lil Pump's Gucci Gang with the other 7 Parli debaters. That moment will forever be cemented in my mind because we competition was nowhere on our mind—we were simply enjoying each other's company and having a good time.

Your Favorite Piece/debate:

My favorite piece is my Original Oratory from this year, detailing how people use privilege in order to ignore the plight of marginalized community. I was able to use my platform in order to share the stories of homeless and LGBT people who felt like their identities were invisible in the eyes of society.
My favorite debate topic had to be "The United States federal government should ban professional football leagues." My partner Mayank was able to apply his knowledge of specific football players as we discussed how football players conduct themselves and the prospect of having the government interfere in professional sports was intellectually stimulating as we considered the benefits and harms of it.

Aditi Chatradhi:

Main Events: NX, OA, Policy Debate

One Word to Describe MSD: Dynamic

Favorite MSD Tournament: Speech State Quals

Favorite MSD Experience:

At the Speech State Quals tournament, there are always unexpected successes when someone double qualifies and drops there spot for someone else to qualify. This year, Himansh and I spent a lot of time preparing for State Quals and I saw him working extremely hard at every class and blitz. At the awards ceremony he ended up being the next alternate and it was such an awesome experience to see the smile on his face when he found out he had finally qualified.

Your Favorite Debate topic:

My favorite debate topic was the policy debate resolution from my sophomore year: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China. My debate partner Eshan and I had a fun time debating this topic all year and I also found the debates to be very enriching and engaging.

Conor Sherry:

Main Events: HI, DUO, POI, DI

One Word to Describe MSD: Adrenaline

Favorite MSD Tournament: NSDA Nationals

Favorite MSD Experience:

When I was a freshman our team won state for the first time! The bus ride back was insane, to this day it has been one of my favorite memories. We all sang we are the champions at full blast on the bus ride home. Every single person was proud, happy and having a blast.

Your Favorite Piece:

My old duo "Click" is my favorite piece I have performed. The message is undeniably valuable to everyone. The message revolved around the idea of not wasting the time that we have on this earth because at any moment it can all be taken away.

As described below from left to right: Darya Kaviani, Suroor Nakhoda, Priya Ravi, and Eshan Gupta

Darya Kaviani:

Main Events: PF, Duo, OA, OPP, Congress

One Word to Describe MSD: Passionate

Favorite MSD Tournament: Berkeley Invitational

Favorite MSD Experience:

Last year, the MLK final round of OA was all female and the announcer even said "Wow, is this an all-female panel?" Six of the seven of us were female and it felt so good to be a part of a squad that had conquered a male-dominated event. We did a big group hug afterwards on stage!

Your Favorite Debate topic:

The Saudi Arabia topic was so significant to me. I did not know a lot about this really important global issue and I loved engaging in discourse about the merits of U.S. leverage and the oppression of the Yemeni population.

Suroor Nakhoda:

Main Events: EXPOS, OPP

One Word to Describe MSD: Home

Favorite MSD Tournament: UOP

Favorite MSD Experience:

My favorite MSD experience was League 2 last year when we closed out three tournament in OPP. It as my first wildcard, but it was so special to receive it with 6 of my best friends. At time time, I was also OPP captain with one of my favorite people in the world: Jaz Ho. We both were beaming with pride for days after.

Your Favorite Piece:

My favorite piece that I have done is my Expos this year about drag queens because I got to be artistic in creating an unconventional speech. I felt happy every time I performed because I truly felt like I was informing people and opening people’s eyes to a beautiful side of LGBTQ+ culture.

Priya Ravi:

Main Events: OPP, Expos

One Word to Describe MSD: dynamic

Favorite MSD Tournament: UOP

Favorite MSD Experience:

My favorite MSD experience is Berkeley quarter breaks from my junior year, where all seven of my expos girls broke together. The feeling where we were all crying, sharing in on the same happiness and excitement that brought us so close as a squad was absolutely unforgettable. In that moment, I knew that whatever happened next, I had this amazing group of girls, as well as the rest of expos squad, to love me unconditionally and give me a home among them.

Your Favorite Piece:

My favorite piece is definitely my OPP from this year. It discusses the intersection between having a career as a doctor and gun rights advocacy, both passions to me. Through this passion project, I have learned what it means to be excited to perform and enjoy every minute of a piece that is close to my heart and has a message I know matters.

Eshan Gupta:

Main Events: IX, IMP, Policy

One Word to Describe MSD: transformative

Favorite MSD Tournament: State Tournament 2017

Favorite MSD Experience:

It would have to be at State my sophomore year. This was the year we were defending our title for the first time, and as the last day of competition progressed, it seemed as if the sweepstakes win may not be possible due to break numbers. The entire squad came together for one of the most inspirational pump up talks and break announcements I’ve ever been in. Following that emotional rollercoaster of a day, it ended on a perfect note, with the back to back state championship complete!

Your Favorite Debate topic:

I loved the China Relations Policy Topic as it was the first time that in debate I was able to explore international issues and relations. This led me to further invest my time in International Extemp and shaped my love of international issues research and analysis.
